The Federation starship USS Enterprise NCC-1701 is launched


Spock enters Starfleet Academy, instead of enrolling at the Vulcan Science Academy, against Sarek’s wishes.


Christopher Pike assumes command of USS Enterprise NCC-1701, and takes the ship on its second five-year mission.


James T. Kirk is in his freshman year at Starfleet Academy and befriends Lt Cmdr Benjamin Finney, an instructor.


Leonard McCoy graduates medical school.

Captain James T. Kirk assumes command of the USS Enterprise NCC-1701 for an historic five-year mission of exploration. He is seen off on his first mission by his father George Kirk, his brother Sam and his family.
The Borg invade and destroy the El-Aurian homeworld. The survivors flee towards Earth.
Captain Christopher Pike is promoted to the rank of fleet captain.
A new uniform is introduced for Starfleet personnel (pajama style), though the previous style will continue to be used for years.

An accident aboard a J-class starship releases delta radiation, killing several Starfleet cadets, and severely injuring Fleet Captain Christopher Pike, confining him to a wheelchair.


The Treaty of Organia is signed by the Klingon Empire and the United Federation of Planets, thereby preventing a destructive conflict between the two powers and paving the way for further approaches.
Nimbus III is jointly established as the Planet of Galactic Peace by the Romulan Star Empire, the United Federation of Planets and the Klingon Empire.


A brief alliance between the Klingon Empire and the Romulan Star Empire occurs. This results in an exchange of technology and spacecraft design, most notably the cloaking device to the Klingons.


This was the fifth and final year of Captain James T. Kirk’s first five-year mission.
Tuvok begins taking lessons in kal-toh from a Vulcan master.
A team of 127 Federation scientists, led by Professor Ketteract discovers the Omega molecule during the top secret research called “Project Omega” in the Lantaru sector.


In the beginning of this year, James T. Kirk’s five-year mission ends. He is promoted to Admiral and becomes Chief of Starfleet Operations.
Spock retires from Starfleet and returns to Vulcan to undergo kolinahr.
Leonard McCoy also retires from Starfleet and starts a private medical practice on Earth.
Willard Decker is promoted to captain of the USS Enterprise NCC-1701.
Orion neutrality comes to an end after an act of piracy. After the freighter USS Huron is attacked and looted, the starship USS Enterprise captures the Orion vessel responsible.


Demora Sulu, daughter of Hikaru Sulu is born.
Kor leads the Klingons in the Battle of Klach D’Kel Brakt against the Romulans, marking the end of the Romulan-Klingon Alliance.


ST1: The Motion Picture – An attack on Earth by a massive machine lifeform called V’Ger is closely averted. (Pocket Books officially places the film in 2273.)


Sarek of Vulcan meets the Legarans for the first time.
Betazed (Beta Zeta V) was admitted into the United Federation of Planets (per Star Trek: Star Charts).





Around this time a new uniform is introduced for Starfleet personnel (monster maroons). The process of replacing all uniforms on every vessel and starbase took time, with some individuals wearing the older uniform type for years afterwards.


Three weeks out of her home starbase, the USS Bozeman disappears near the Typhon Expanse.




James T. Kirk sees Demora Sulu for the last time until 2293.




Carol Marcus sends a proposal for Project Genesis to the Federation authorities.
Audrid Dax dies. The Dax symbiont passes to Torias.


ST2: The Wrath of Khan – Reliant destroyed. James T. Kirk turns 52 years old.
ST3: The Search for Spock – USS Enterprise NCC-1701 is destroyed.
The Dax symbiont is joined with Curzon, after a brief stretch of time with Joran following the death of Torias.
USS Hathaway, a Constellation-class starship, is launched from Copernicus Ship Yards, Luna.
Trill (Trillius Prime) was admitted to the United Federation of Planets (per Star Trek: Star Charts).


ST4: The Voyage Home – Earth is again saved from being obliterated by a probe of unknown origin. Admiral James T. Kirk is demoted.
The USS Enterprise NCC-1701-A is launched under the command of Captain James T. Kirk.


ST5: The Final Frontier – Nimbus3 – USS Enterprise NCC-1701-A encounters Sybok, Spock’s half-brother. Sybok hijacks the Enterprise and forces it to travel through the Great Barrier in search of the planet Sha Ka Ree.



Tuvok goes to Starfleet Academy to become a Starfleet officer.
Negotiations between the Federation and the Klingon Empire take place on the Korvat colony. At the time, Curzon Dax was representing the Federation, while Kang represented the Klingons.


Hikaru Sulu is promoted to captain, and given command of USS Excelsior, for a three-year mission charting gaseous anomalies in the Beta Quadrant.
Three Klingon battle cruisers, commanded by Kor, Koloth, and Kang, are dispatched to apprehend the Albino. The raid is successful in breaking up most of the Albino’s power base, but they fail to capture the Albino himself.
The Klingon battle cruiser IKS T’Ong is sent by the Klingon High Command on a high priority mission. For this mission, the crew is placed into cryogenic stasis.



By this year the Romulan-Klingon Alliance has come to an end, with the two powers regarding each other as ‘blood enemies’ again.


ST6: The Undiscovered Country – Klingon moon Praxis explodes. Despite the prior assassination of Klingon Chancellor Gorkon, the Khitomer Accords between the Federation and the Klingon Empire are signed on the Khitomer Conference to establish a lasting peace between the two powers.
The USS Enterprise NCC-1701-A is decommissioned.
Tuvok graduates from Starfleet Academy and is assigned to the starship USS Excelsior, under the command of Captain Sulu.


The USS Jenolan, while en route to the retirement colony on Norpin V, encounters a Dyson sphere. The Jenolan becomes trapped in the sphere’s gravity well and crashes. The only two survivors, Ensign Matt Franklin and passenger Captain Montgomery Scott, unable to wait for a rescue, place themselves in suspended animation by storing their patterns in the pattern buffer of the ship’s transporter.





Tuvok resigns from Starfleet and begins the process of the kolinahr ritual.
